Authentic Philly Cheesesteak
With gas prices being the way they are, it’s hard to justify a day trip just to acquire an authentic Philly Cheesesteak these days. Luckily, Rosica’s offers the closest thing to the genuine Philadelphiaoriginal this side of the Mason-Dixon Line, and they’re located less than a mile from the Man O’ War and Wizard Golf Courses!
The small café is casual and inviting, with tasteful patriotic accents and cheerful country music contributing to the comfortable Americana theme. Philadelphia native Bob Rosica and his wife, Elizabeth, opened Rosica’s in the CarolinaForest area of Myrtle Beach last summer.
The restaurant boasts 20 varieties of sandwiches based on regional influences to include the Passyunk or Schuykill Cheesesteaks and the Academy Road Hoagie. And, true to tradition, each sandwich is served in colossal portions on soft Amarosa bread that the Rosicas receive fresh from Philladelphia.
For those who crave more localized fare, Rosica’s also offers an assortment of burgers, wraps, and both North and South Carolina-style barbecues and many side dishes. While fries may seem an obvious choice to complete a meal, another choice is shrimp macaroni salad, a fantastic recipe created by Bob’s mother.
Rosica’s carries 24 flavors of Blue Bunny Ice Cream, which are good enough to order by the bucket.
Tucked away from the bustle of U.S. 501, Rosica’s is convenient for CarolinaForest families to grab laid-back meals or desserts. The Rosicas are learning regular customers’ names, and say that most evenings there are more bicycles and golf carts in their parking lot than cars.
Rosica’s is located off Carolina Forest Boulevardon Gateway Avenueacross the street from CarolinaForestElementary School. They’re open Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m during summer and Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in winter. For more information about Rosica’s call 903-7777.
